The Mustangs are tied at First Place!!

A spectacular match was played between the Mustangs and the Mellieha Northenders last Saturday at the Marsa Baseball Field.

In the first inning both teams had their defense on the upper hand were no runs were allowed. The Mustangs however were more aggressive in the top of the second by scoring two runs. It was in the 3rd inning that the Mellieha Northenders took the lead, scoring 3 runs by taking advantage of the Mustangs mistakes and ending the inning 4-3 in their favor.

The Mustangs managed to find a run in the 5th inning to tie the ball game, and in the 6th inning the Mustangs rallied another 3 runs to take a 7-4 lead which was the final score of the game. Starting pitcher Spiteri Kevin for the Mustangs managed to pitch the whole game and earned himself the first win of the season.

It is now all up to the last game of the season, which will be played next Saturday at 12:30 at the Marsa Baseball Field, to determine the Champion between these two competitive clubs.

The U/14 Mustangs lose the first YMAJOR Game

Grand Slammer Vs U/14 Mustangs (YMAJOR):

After crushing the Grand Slammers in the YMINOR league, the Grand Slammers got back to them in the YMAJOR league.

The U/14 Mustangs took the lead and scored the first run in the ball game, but this was not kept for so long as the Grand Slammers scored 5 runs of their own in the 1st and 2nd inning. The Mustangs replied with another couple of runs but the their hitting could not keep up with the experienced pitching shown by the Grand Slammers pitcher Nicky Micallef.

The final score of the game was 14-6 in favor of the Grand Slammer in which N. Micallef earned his first win of the season.

The U/14 Mustangs extend winning streak to 4 Games (YMINOR)

Grand Slammer Vs U/14 Mustangs:

The Mustangs opened the 1st inning with a 2 run lead, but the Grand Slammers got back in the game and took the lead by the 2nd inning with the score being 5-2 in their favor. The Mustangs then got some strong at bats when Borg Barthet Kai, Camilleri Jake and Borg Andrew hit the ball deep in the outfield, scoring 4 runs in the 3rd and 4th inning. The Grand Slammers got another run in the 4th, but the Mustangs made sure to close the game in the 5th by scoring another 5 runs, making it impossible for the Grand Slammers to get back in the game. The Final score of the game was 15-6 in favor of the Mustangs.

The U/14 Mustangs are on Top!!

Mustangs Vs Redcoats Baseball:

The Redcoats baseball starting getting some runs early in the game however the Mustangs settled in by the third inning and completely shut their offence down and scored some runs to take the lead. The Final score of the game was 11-5 in favor of the Mustangs.

Mustangs Vs Ghajnsielem Redcoats:

The last time the Mustangs faced the Ghajnsielem Redcoats was in Gozo when they have lost 10-9. However this time around the Mustangs made sure that this won’t happen again by concentrating in making the outs and scoring runs whenever it was necessary which eventually led them to win the game 13-6.

Minor League Baseball Tied

The teams in the Minor League Baseball got all tied after last Tuesday when the U/14 Mustangs lost 17-14 against the Blue Jays and Won 7-4 against the Grand Slammers.

The U/14 Mustangs Win It All!!

The U/14 Mustangs are the winners of the Youth Softball League (YSL). The YSL title was all up to the final game of the league and the Mustangs made sure to finish on top and secure the title as the Winners of the 2012 YSL.

The Mustangs played their exceptionally well in which they have shown good defence throughout the ball game, in fact the Mellieha Blue Jays only managed to find 1 run. The Mustangs started off strong in the first inning and scored 4 runs. After the first inning both the Blue Jays and the Mustangs managed to settle in, were both teams managed to shut down the opposing team up to the final inning.

However the early 3 run lead was more than enough to give the Mustangs the lead and confidence that was needed to win this game and ultimately to win the YSL title.

The U/14 Mustangs Shut Down the Grand Slammers!!

The U/14 Mustangs hold the lead in the Youth Softball League (YSL) after shutting down the Grand Slammers at the Mellieħa Football ground. This was the first ever shut out game in the 2012 YSL to be played.

After losing against the Għajnsielem Redcoats, the Mustangs unite together to show everyone how the game of baseball should be played. By accurate and precise hitting the Mustangs started off scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning, their defence was as good as their offence and the Grand Slammers could not reply with any runs of their own. In the top of the second inning the Mustangs extend their lead by scoring another run. Again the Grand Slammers struggled to get some hits and could not capitalize any runs, ending the bottom of the second with a 3-0 lead in favour of the Mustangs.

The Grand Slammers finally settled in the third inning and both teams were now quickly on and off the field for the 3rd, 4th and 5th inning, both of the teams shutting their opponents down, therefore disallowing any runners from crossing home plate. The Grand Slammers never got through the Mustangs defence, and although the Mustangs struggled to get some hits in the ballgame, three runs were all that was needed to win the game due to their excellent defence, were no runs and just three hits were allowed in the ball game.

The Blue Jays will now face the Għajnsielem Redcoats next Sunday.

The U/14 Mustangs Winning Streak Comes to an End

After being unbeaten for the first round of the Season, the U/14 Mustangs lost their first game of the Season against the Ghajnsielem Redcoats.

The Mustangs started off strong scoring 3 runs with back to back hits in the first inning.  The Redcoats had their try, but the Mustangs has shown excellent defense in both the bottom of the first and 2nd inning disallowing any runs from the Redcoats. In the Second inning the Mustangs scored 3 runs and loaded the bases, that is when Farrugia Zak managed to hit an inside the park Grand Slam, but unfortunetly due to the 4 run limit rule only one run counted, ending the inning with a 7-0 lead in favour of the Mustangs.

With that lead the Mustangs where now overconfident that they had  already won, but the game was far from over. The Redcoats managed to shut the Mustangs offence down for the 3rd and 4th inning and kept their bats going tying the game at 7-7 by the end of the 4th inning. The Redcoats capitalised on a number of close calls and fielding errors from the Mustangs side.

The game was all down to the last inning were the Mustangs managed to score 2 runs, surprisingly the Redcoats scored 3 runs making this game undoubtedly the seasons biggest comeback, the Redcoats took the win 10-9 after coming back from behind 7-0. This has reopened the race for the championship again as the Bluejays and Mustangs are both tied in first place.

The U/14 Mustangs are Leading the Youth Softball League

After being tied at first place with the Blue Jays in the Youth Softball League, the U/14 Mustangs have took the lead by defeating the Blue Jays 8-1 extending their winning streak by 3 games in a row.

The U/14 Mustangs started off with a 1 run lead in the first inning, and increased it to a 4 run lead in the third. The Blue Jays could not reply with any runs for the first 3 innings  where the Mustangs shut their offence down by showing excellent fielding abilities, primarily by Borg Max and Borg Barthet Kai. In the 4th inning the Blue Jays managed to find a breakthrough and scored their only run in the ball game. Finally in the top of the 5th the Mustangs score another 4 runs, three of which were batted in by Camilleri Jake with a 3RBI triple, making it impossible for the Blue Jays to get back in the game.

The U/14 Mustangs Win Again!

The Grand Slammers started the game by hitting the ball well and taking advantage of the U/14 Mustangs defence by scoring 2 runs in the first, however the Mustangs were quick with their bats and scored 4 runs of their own reaching the 4 run limit and putting the game  in their favour. The Mustangs and Grand Slammers were consistent during the game and battled head to head up to the 3rd inning.

In the top of the 4th inning the Grand Slammers managed to take a 1 run lead in the game but the Mustangs made sure that that was for a short period of time as their bats scored another 4 run limit in the bottom of the 4th. Finally the Mustangs were confident enough to win the game and shut the Grand Slammers Offence down in the 5th which ended the game 10-7  in favour of the Mustangs.
