Mavericks win the first game of the Regular Season

A pleasant start to the day as the Mavericks manages to win the first game of the second division league. The Mellieha rookies started off to score a couple of runs in the top of the first, but the Mustangs had a strong reply scoring 5 runs in both the first and second inning. Finally the game ended up 14-5 in favor of the Mustangs and Clint Francica managed to pitch his first career win.

On a more negative note the Mustangs lose another game against the reigning champions the Mellieha Northenders Reflections Sports Bar & Grill. The Northenders opened up the score in the first inning by scoring one run, but, soon after, the Mustangs replied with another 3 runs of their own. The Mustangs and the Northenders kept battling each other by scoring timely runs up to the 4th inning having the score 8-5 in favor of the Mustangs.

Eventually the Northenders found a breakthrough and started to take advantage of the Mustangs defence by scoring 5 runs in the 5th inning, the Mustangs then scored a run of their own ending the inning at 9-10. In the top of the sixth a pitching change was taken place in the Mustangs roster and the Northenders took full advantage of that and the Mustangs defence by scoring 6 runs in the sixth and another 4 runs in the 7th inning one of which being an inside the park homerun by Keith Bartolo. The Mustangs found one run in the late innings but that wasn’t enough and eventually lost the game 10-20 where Clinton Grima earned himself his first win of the season.

A Like for Baseball

Throw up a “Like” for… broken-in bats, that glove that feels just right, the smell of fresh cut grass and the red dirt stuck in your cleats… for the bottom of the ninth, for that sac-fly, and for base hit that roll into the corner… for your pitcher, who’s stuff is just electric today and your clean-up guy who strolls up to the plate… for everything that makes this game great…
